Rhetoric
Another thing: Political leaders who choose to call PEOPLE who cross America's borders illegally 'Illegals' should get hell for it. In the article mentioned below, Tom Tancredo, a Republican from Colorado uses the dehumanizing word 'illegals' as do many other public figures. As taught in journalism classes at UT-Austin and mentioned in the AP stylebook, immigrants, even though they have gotten to America through illegal means, are not to be referred to as 'illegals.' Even college students know this. It's insensitive, condescending, and politically incorrect. Public representatives should be responsible for their language. Using the word 'illegals' should be recognized as demeaning, and leaders using this word should be reprimanded for it.
